Love & Paws Rescue works tirelessly to save the dogs in our community. We want to honor the dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge before finding their forever homes. These dogs will live in our hearts forever and we want to tell everyone their story to hopefully end the neglect and abuse that leads to premature passing.
Wilma was a 10 year old Lab mix that had lived her whole life in a hoarder's home in Winnsboro. Texas. It was obvious that she was over bred and that she had been severely neglected. Our mission was to do everything we could to turn Wilma's life around and find her the perfect forever home. She fell ill within days of her rescue and was diagnosed with pyometra. She thankfully survived the emergency surgery and continued to heal. She started to play with the other foster dogs, enjoying all the affection we had to offer, and was so happy to finally be living the life she always wanted. Unfortunately when the winter storm hit, she fell ill again. She ultimately passed from severe pneumonia that her immune compromised body could not fight off.
We remember Wilma as the amazing momma dog that she was to Winifred, Wayland, Wren, and Whiskey. We remember her for the sweet natured and gentle girl that she was. She enjoyed soft blankets, fluffy beds, and was always monitoring her babies to make sure they were happy.
We will keep fighting for dogs like Wilma.
Winifred was an 8 year old Lab mix that had lived her whole life in a hoarder's home in Winnsboro. Texas. She had been neglected and it was obvious that she did not have much human contact as she was mostly semi-feral. We wanted to give Winifred all the time she needed to get comfortable with us and ultimately find her perfect and patient forever home. Unfortunately when the winter storm hit, she fell ill. She ultimately passed from severe pneumonia that her immune compromised body could not fight off.
We remember Winifred as the resilient girl that was uncomfortable with physical touch but didn't let that stop her from enjoying life. She loved throwing her toys around, showing them off, and piling them up to play with later. She had such a happy spirit. So much so that we called her "Happy" most of the time.
We will keep fighting for dogs like Winifred.
The Grey's Anatomy Crew
Meredith Grey, Derek Shephard, Alex Karev, and Atticus Lincoln
Meredith Grey, Derek Shephard, and Alex Karev were 4 month old terrier mixes who lived their short lives in a hoarder's apartment in Arlington, Texas. After the apartment was raided by city officials and animal control, they were brought to the local shelter along with their sister, Christina Yang, and four 9 month old terrier mixes Mark Sloan, George O' Malley, Richard Webber, and Jackson Avery. They were placed in the same area of the shelter as Atticus Lincoln and his 3 siblings- Miranda Bailey, Andrew Deluca, and Maggie Pierce- who were 4 month old pit mixes. Unfortunately, Grey, Shephard, Karev, and Yang weren't feeling very good and began exhibiting symptoms of parvovirus. These 8 puppies went from a life of neglect to the euthanasia list, while Lincoln and his siblings were also placed on the euthanasia list due to exposure. They were given less than a day to be rescued. We were outraged and believed in their right to be given a chance to fight, so we pulled all 12 puppies.
Grey, Shephard, Karev, and Yang were taken to a local emergency vet for nausea medicine and fluids before their transport to Pearland Parvo Recovery Center near Houston. Between the time we got them home from the vet and loaded to be driven to Houston, Shepherd died in the loving arms of his foster dad. Karev crossed the rainbow bridge in transport, surrounding by his loving sisters Grey and Yang. Two days later, Grey's symptoms and pain became too much for her and we and to make the selfless decision to allow her to go with peace and dignity. That same same, Lincoln and his siblings began appearing lethargic. We didn't want to take a risk and all four went to a local emergency vet. They tested positive for parvo, and were taken to Houston immediately. Lincoln crossed the rainbow bridge the next evening surrounded by his siblings. Yang, Bailey, Deluca, and Pierce all survived, while O'Malley, Webber, Avery, and Sloan never contracted this horrible virus.
We remember Meredith Grey, Derek Shephard, Alex Karev, and Atticus Lincoln through the legacy of their siblings.

Loni was a 10 year old Pit Bull mix. She was surrendered to the shelter, riddled with cancer. She had a large tumor on her mammary that was causing her a lot of pain and discomfort. She had not eaten any food, drank any water, and had been nauseous at the shelter. We could not stand to let her suffer and decided to bring her home as a hospice foster. After only two days in our care, we knew it was her time. We helped Loni cross the rainbow bridge to finally have the rest she deserved.
We remember Loni for the gentle and strong girl that she was at the end. She laid her head in our lap, enjoying pets for hours. She found comfort in being close to us. She knew love with us when she needed it the most. We keep fighting for dogs like Loni.
